The Hall

The Settlement runs its programs and services from the Settlement Neighbourhood Centre, at 17 Edward Street, Darlington. The centre is a safe place where opportunities are created through social connections, community-led programs, access to housing and an open door for everyone.

It was the first building bought by the Sydney University Women’s Society in Edward Street in November 1925.

In its early days The Hall was the venue for championship badminton tournaments and glamorous balls. The table in the sun-filled ‘Elders Room’ downstairs where the kitchen is located is the same table leaders and representatives from various indigenous groups sat at to discuss issues relating to housing, health and welfare in the 1960s and 1970s. This table still remains today a place where people come to sit around to discuss important issues but also a place for people to connect, share, and laugh over a hot tea or a meal.

The Settlement remains an accessible place for all in the community. With our multi functioning space we are able to welcome many groups, community members and organisations to come enjoy our space for practice, performance, meetings, gatherings, functions and events.

It is available for hire via the form below.
