Housing
The Settlement own 6 houses and 6 flats on Edward Street that are leased as affordable housing for Aboriginal families and community members.
These properties were acquired during the 1940’s-50’s and were used originally as cheap student housing, however this soon changed and the properties were allocated as affordable housing for families. Today, The Settlement’s presence in Darlington is more important than it has ever been, as rents and the cost-of-living rise and many locals are being squeezed out by gentrification and the high price of properties.
The Settlement’s housing properties are managed through our community partner Bridge Housing. Bridge Housing provides the Settlement with fee for service, tenancy and property management.
