About Us

man at NADOC week

The Settlement provides a range of programs to children, young people and families. Our work is holistic, strength based and person centred. We also provide social housing in our properties, which are also located on Edward Street in Darlington, next to The Settlement Hall where many of our day-to-day activities take place.

Currently we deliver:

  • an Aboriginal youth health support program
  • youth case management
  • after school activities for children and young people
  • vacation care for children and young people
  • a Cooking program
  • information, referral and advocacy for the general community
  • tenancy, housing and job support for the general community
  • structured programs for young people to address issues associated with:
    • alcohol and other drugs
    • literacy
    • sexual health
    • mental health
    • general well-being

kristinaAmong the energetic and inspiring people who help out at The Settlement (during some months we will have up to 40 volunteers pass through The Settlement doors!) there is a core group of five dedicated professionals who are engaged on a full or a part time basis, led by The Settlement's manager. Meet the team here.

Behind the scenes, there's also a dedicated Board of Directors who give up their time to make a difference in the community as well as carry The Settlement's philosophy into their work places and into their lives. You can meet the members of The Settlement Board here.

boy with duckYour support for The Settlement is vital so that we can continue to provide housing for Aboriginal community members and be a place for children, youth and adults who might not have any other place to go or who might not like their other options.

The cost of ongoing maintenance to the properties, combined with the cost of running The Settlement programs at a high level, means we're operating at loss.

The bottom line is, we need to raise money from the community to keep the programs running, particularly the children's After School Care program which is mostly funded from our own balance sheet. Learn more about out fundraising campaign and Donate Now.
